Being a sensitive person can sometimes feel like a punishment; absorbing the energy of those around you and feeling the emotions of everyone in a room is draining, confusing, overwhelming, and, sometimes, down-right saddening. Trying to discern one’s own emotions from those of others takes a toll on how we function every day… It’s not unheard of for highly sensitive people to closet themselves away in order to have a little peace.
The overwhelm isn’t helped by American culture’s call to “buck up” and “grow thicker skin.” Um, what? Yeah, “stop being so sensitive” because what we really need in the world is more callousness. We need for everyone to feel like they’re not good enough in every way possible.
Well, not around here, folks. Today’s episode is about learning to appreciate the beautiful gift we have been blessed with, the ability to experience empathy and compassion – to feel deeply.
We discuss how to get through the tough times with some really great coping tips. Plus, Toni shares the daily practices she uses to protect herself from the energies of others. Many of us mask our true sensitivity to fit in, to get by, to not be judged, but there is a balance between protecting and suppressing our true selves. We’re going to help you find that balance.
Please enjoy this beautiful episode on vulnerability and the strength it takes to feel.
