096 – Leaving Things Behind

Our lives are works of art that sometimes look a lot more Goya than Rockwell. Like art, our lives are full of complexities, richness, and stories that are open to the interpretation of each individual who experiences them. Music and literature also share the fluidity of perception. Ink, paint, notes, life experiences…all true. You can see them, touch them, hear them, live them, but they’re not the complete story. They’re part of the whole that challenges each of us to discover what we need from them in the moment.

It can be tough, though, to see our past in these terms, as fluid. After all, the impact our past experiences have on us is, in this metaphor, the brush that defines the line or the pen that shapes each letter. The total sum of the parts makes us who we are: Yes!

But it’s ok to look again, with new eyes – more experienced eyes – and seek the deeper meanings. To find the symbolism of strength and resilience, of power and abundance. It’s ok, but sometimes not easy. Sometimes, the blocks are attachments that only keep you from shining your brightest.

Today, we are discussing what it means to redefine your story and how to handle the anxiety or fear that may show up when we realize that we need to leave some things behind in order to live into our new chapters. Sometimes, these are people, family or friends, and sometimes they’re habits or thoughts.

Whatever it is that seeks to keep you in a story that no longer serves you, we know how challenging it can be to let go. We hope you enjoy today’s episode and grab your copy of “Heal Your Soul: 5 Practices for an Empowered Life.”

072 – Growing Pains

On today’s episode, we’re checking in on America and how she’s coping with the increasingly changing gender roles and gender equity. Sometimes, we suffer growing pains as we transition from one set of norms into a new one.

And, to some, these pains are not easy to grin and bear. Traditional values sometimes become a lifeline for people in a disconnected, busy society; the defending of these traditional ideologies becomes even more important to some when a lot of things are making big strides at the same time, such as marriage equality, gender equality, and anti-racism.

It’s important to have patience and tolerance on both sides of change. We can’t shuffle everyone into either friend or foe… sometimes people need a moment. Sometimes people need to be part of the dialogue. And sometimes people need to watch silently from the sidelines until they know where they fit.

Please join us in discussing how humankind is handling this momentous time.

Have you ever hidden your faith so that others don’t judge you? Do you squash your spirituality to fit into whatever societal structure you’re currently in?

Are you embarrassed to tell your friends that you believe in God?

Whether you identify as spiritual, religious, atheist, agnostic, pagan etc., it’s almost guaranteed that you have felt prejudice or down-right stigmatization based on your beliefs. It has somehow turned into a personal offense to discuss how we practice our faith or lack thereof.

In this week’s episode, we try to uncover the role of spirituality in our lives today. We break down how personal experiences affect what we think “spiritual” means (it’s all love, yo) and why we shouldn’t let those ideas sully our chance to connect to something deeper than ourselves.

Please join us in a truly open conversation about what it means to be spiritual.
