Images of pore-less faces, size 00 figures, huge breasts, and flawless bodies bombard girls and women, as well as boys and men, from almost every media outlet imaginable. There seems to be no way to escape the media’s onslaught on the self-esteem of females. It’s the great distraction of the twenty-first century… physical perfection must be attained at all cost!
Even when a woman attains a leadership position, her physical appearance makes headlines much more often than a man in a similar position. And let’s not forget to discuss how the media propagates the instability of women based on <gasp> their cycle!
Toni and Angela engage in an inspired discussion on the ways in which women are portrayed in the media… and why it should matter to all of us. Drawing from the insightful documentary, “Miss Representation,” the ladies urge women to take charge of the ideas and images being disseminated about women.
