Now that we’re breaking the silence, it’s also time to break some plates! In this episode, Angela and Toni talk about using creativity to heal trauma. In 2011, the ladies collaborated with other courageous women and produced the show Breaking Plates,a series of monologues showcasing the healing journey of survivors of sexual abuse.
This small-scale, local theatrical production was managed on a shoestring budget full of inspiration and honesty. By harnessing severe emotional and/ or physical trauma into a creative outlet, not only can one release a broader range of pain, one can connect more deeply with others in similar situations.
Angela and Toni encourage other women to manifest their pent-up feelings by either literally or figuratively breaking a plate…and sharing that experience with others! For real, you should smash a plate – it’s awesome!
Write out your thoughts, get some actresses (or get on the stage yourself!), find a friendly venue, donate to a fabulous organization, and let your audience have a release at the end by breaking their own plates! It’s really that simple!
